Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that defenseman Scott Fletcher has been assigned to the Reading Royals of the ECHL. With the move, the P-Bruins have 25 players on their roster, including 15 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.
Fletcher, 22, was recalled by Providence from Reading for the second time this season on February 12, since appearing in three games with a plus-three rating. The defenseman has missed Providence's last five games due to injury dating back to February 19. Overall, Fletcher has suited up for 11 P-Bruins games on the year, going scoreless with 27 penalty minutes. With Reading, the rookie has recorded four points (2g, 2a) and 67 PIM in 23 contests.
Prior to turning pro, Fletcher enjoyed five seasons of junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League, splitting time between the Plymouth Whalers, Niagara IceDogs, Mississauga IceDogs and Saginaw Spirit. In juniors, the undrafted native of Haslett, Michigan, appeared in 236 regular season games with 15 points (2g, 13a) and 632 PIM. Fletcher also suited up for 25 playoff contests, going scoreless with 48 PIM. He signed an AHL contract with Providence on August 11, 2009.

Riendeau Back In Providence

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have reassigned forward Yannick Riendeau to Providence from the Reading Royals of the ECHL. With the move, the P-Bruins have 27 players on their roster, including 16 forwards, nine defensemen and two goaltenders.
Riendeau, 21, was reassigned to Reading on February 14, where he made his Royals debut that evening against the Wheeling Nailers. The game was a historic one for Riendeau as he scored his first professional goal and registered his first career multiple-point game by adding an assist. Overall, the young winger appeared in three games for Reading, totaling three points with two goals and one assist.
Riendeau's pro career officially began on December 28, 2009 when he was assigned to Providence by Boston after missing the first 34 games of the AHL season due to injury. The right wing made his professional debut the following night at the Springfield Falcons, tallying his first pro point with an assist. Riendeau went on to appear in six games for Providence before missing a 14-game stretch, again due to injury.
The rookie enjoyed a standout junior season in 2008-09 with the Drummondville Voltigeurs, where he led the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in scoring during both the regular season and the playoffs. In 64 regular season games, Riendeau scored 58 goals and tallied 68 assists for 126 points before adding 52 points, including 29 goals, in just 19 postseason contests. His playoff totals set Voltigeurs franchise records, while his 16 postseason power play goals set a QMJHL record. His postseason performance earned him the league's Guy Lafleur Trophy as the Playoff Most Valuable Player.
Riendeau's 2008-09 totals included 40 power play goals between the regular season and playoffs, a plus-57 rating and 49 multiple-point games, featuring 26 contests with at least three points. He was named the QMJHL's Player of the Week on five occasions and the league's Player of the Month in both December and February. In 13 February outings, Riendeau compiled 19 goals, 33 points and plus-19 rating.
Prior to joining Drummondville, the native of Boucherville, Quebec, skated for four seasons with the QMJHL's Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. In his five junior seasons, Riendeau scored 150 goals and tallied 187 assists for 337 points in 298 regular season games, plus 90 points (57g, 46a) in 57 postseason outings. Riendeau was signed to an entry-level contract by Boston on April 2.

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have assigned forward Trent Whitfield to Providence. With the move, the P-Bruins have 23 players on their roster, including 15 forwards, six defensemen and two goaltenders.
Whitfield, 32, returns to Providence from his second stint in Boston this year. During his most recent NHL run, which began on January 8, the veteran appeared in seven games for the parent Bruins, averaging 19 shifts and 14 minutes per game. Whitfield registered his first Boston point with an assist on January 21 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
In 26 games for Providence, the club's captain is tied for fourth on the team in scoring with 20 points and shares third place with nine goals. Whitfield registered points in three straight P-Bruins games just prior to his recall from Dec. 29 - Jan. 2, totaling two goals and two assists. The 12th year pro and native of Alameda, Saskatchewan, was signed by Boston as a free agent on July 13, 2009. Larman, 24, has enjoyed two recalls to Boston this season, going scoreless in four games overall while averaging roughly eight minutes of ice-time per contest. The undrafted center was first recalled by the parent Bruins on January 18, making his Boston debut that afternoon against the Ottawa Senators. In Providence this season, Larman has appeared in 43 games with nine points, including five goals and four assists.

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins (20-21-3-0, 43 PTS, 7th Atlantic) host the Lowell Devils (25-16-3-1, 54 PTS, 3rd Atlantic) this evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center for the teams' seventh of 10 regular season meetings in 2009-10. On the year, the P-Bruins are 2-4-0-0 against the Devils, including 2-1-0-0 in Rhode Island.
American Hockey League action resumes tonight after the league's All-Star break, which featured the Canadian AHL All-Stars besting the PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars 10-9 in a shootout on Tuesday night in Portland. Providence's Mikko Lehtonen and Andy Wozniewski participated in the event, representing PlanetUSA. Lehtonen scored two goals in his first career All-Star appearance while Wozniewski added an assist.
The P-Bruins take a two-game winless skid (0-1-1-0) into tonight's play as they sit just six points out of a potential playoff spot. The Devils have points in two straight contests at 1-0-0-1 and they have won three road games in a row.

Providence Hosts Lowell with Marchand & McQuaid Returning
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins (20-21-3-0, 43 PTS, 7th Atlantic) host the Lowell Devils (25-16-3-1, 54 PTS, 3rd Atlantic) this evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center for the teams' seventh of 10 regular season meetings in 2009-10. On the year, the P-Bruins are 2-4-0-0 against the Devils, including 2-1-0-0 in Rhode Island.
American Hockey League action resumes tonight after the league's All-Star break, which featured the Canadian AHL All-Stars besting the PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars 10-9 in a shootout on Tuesday night in Portland. Providence's Mikko Lehtonen and Andy Wozniewski participated in the event, representing PlanetUSA. Lehtonen scored two goals in his first career All-Star appearance while Wozniewski added an assist.
The P-Bruins take a two-game winless skid (0-1-1-0) into tonight's play as they sit just six points out of a potential playoff spot. The Devils have points in two straight contests at 1-0-0-1 and they have won three road games in a row.
Providence is led offensively by Lehtonen's 32 points, including a team-best 12 goals. He and Wozniewski have each tallied 20 assists to pace the team. Fletcher, 22, received his first career AHL recall on December 4, 2009 after beginning the season in Reading, where he registered two goals, one assist and 34 penalty minutes in 16 games. Prior to starting the regular season with the Royals, Fletcher participated in the P-Bruins' training camp after signing an AHL contract on August 11, 2009.
